Noble and rich in symbolism, the rose motif has played an important role as porcelain décor since the Baroque period. In 1790, an artist from the imperial manufactory designed an ornament of individual small rose blossoms. The picturesque scattering of blossoms remained popular until the Biedermeier period. In 1923, the Augarten porcelain manufactory took up this old Viennese tradition again and stylised the rose shakers, interpreted in the taste of modernity. The "Schubert" shape, created in 1923, with its classic silhouettes and discreet ornamental details is still a classic of Viennese porcelain today.
